Why Bother?

I really don't understand why some people even have kids. When I take Sofie to the park I am always amazed at the number of parents who don't bother to parent their children. Either the kid acts like a wild animal and steam rolls over every kid in sight while the parent sits on the bench totally oblivious or the kid is a whiney brat because the parent gives in to the childs every demand and tear drop. Come on people, there is a reason it's called parenting.

 Key words: Love and discipline. Last time I checked parenting was the job of the parent. I also was under the assumption that the parent was the one who set the rules and was in charge not the child. I am pretty sure that if you tell a 2 or 3 year old "no" they won't be scarred for life and hate you forever. I view a lack of discipline as a lack of love. To give your child boundries, is to teach them that you do love them and want the best for them. Children need boundries. That is the way they learn how things work in the world and what is expected of them. Time after time studies have shown that kids without rules grow up to be adults without rules. We all know how well that works out. Just watch an episode of Cops or 48 hours or even Intervention on A&E.


I don't understand why these parents are afraid to be parents. If Sofie had no rules our house would be even more chaotic that it is now. So what if your kid cries or throws a fit when you tell them its time to leave or "no little Susie you cannot push your way to the front of the line on the slide". They get over it and learn it's not nice to be a bully or it's not appropriate to scream and yell when mom says no.


What is so frightening about a toddler that a grown adult lets that child set the rules? This kid is 2 ft tall and barely has control of their motor skills. What are they gonna do to you? It is so comical to me when I see a mom or dad paralyzed with fear when their child starts to cry  or throw a fit. I just want to say "all you have to do is pick the kid up and remove them from the situation. It's not that complex people!" If you don't want to deal with all the "stuff" that goes along with having a child please don't subject me and my kid to your undisciplined little heathen at the park. You may not like to teach your child right and wrong or let them know who is supposed to be in charge but I also don't like to have to console my daughter because some little monster threw dirt in her face or pushed her down when some parent was too lazy or afraid to give their child rules and boundries.


I must say it is also such a joy to be at the park or at the mall play area and have to listen to some child screaming like a banshiee as they run willy nilly all over the place knocking kids down and monopolyzing all the toys. Someone needs to knock that parent in the head with a tack hammer until they get a clue.


It all comes down to this; don't have kids if you don't want to parent them properly. If you already have kids and your child is one of the ones described above; DO US ALL A FAVOR AND JUST STAY HOME! PLEASE!
