Have you ever noticed that on the days when you need a break the most your child just will not take a nap? Sofie was falling asleep in the car on the way home from Wal-mart but of course she no longer wants to sleep. I tried keeping her awake on the drive since we live on the 3rd floor with no elevator. I did not want to schlepp a kid and groceries up the 3 flights. She was so tired, then hit the bed and party time. About 30 minutes in to her fight she poops, so we change, get her back in bed and 30 minutes later she is crying for me to come in there and sit in her rocker while she lays in bed. Then 30 minutes later she asks me to go back out in the living room. What the.......? Does anyone know how to translate what is going on with this kid?
I read an article recently in Parents magazine about the mommy cocktail hour/playdate. It went in to great detail about how moms are now spending playdates drinking with their friends while the kids play. Well duh! People are just now figuring this out? They say that alchoholism is on the rise with moms. Not to make light of the situation but is anyone really surprised by this? Moms are under a tremendous amount of pressure these days to be do and have everything for everyone. Also with the majority of dads not engaged, it's no surprise that moms are drinking more to relieve the stress. I am by no means a teetotaler. I have my fair share of drinks now and then. Some times it is just my little treat for a day well done, or an end to a day full of stress. I just think we need to walk a mile in these mothers shoes before we pass judgment on whether or not they are allowed to have a drink or two with friends during "playtime".
On a brighter note, potty training is going great. Sofie uses the potty exclusively for peepee when we are at home and sometimes for poop. She still wears a pull up at night and during nap time though. We made a foray out to the store with underwear on today and she didn't have an accident so that tells me she is getting the hang of holding her pee and waiting to use the toilet. before too long I am sure she will be ready for full time underwear. She loves being a big girl.
Well time to head upstairs and iron some shirts for the hubby. Stupid economy doesn't allow the dry cleaner right now!
